Rethink Mental Illness is a charity that believes a better life is possible for millions of people affected by mental illness. For 40 years we have brought people together to support each other. We run services and support groups that change people’s lives and challenge attitudes about mental illness.
Our Tri-Borough co-production project has been running since 2016, and brings together young people aged 16-25 with lived experience of mental health issues and NHS commissioners to work in equal partnership improve the mental health and wellbeing support for young people in North West London. The project runs across the London boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham, Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, and includes the co-design and delivery of mental health awareness training to teachers, psycho-education workshops in schools and reviews of local youth mental health services.  
This is a 3-day a week role based in the Head Office in Vauxhall with regular travel around the Tri-Borough locality. If you have experience of working with young people and/or on youth-led projects, and believe young people should be able to both shape and benefit from the support they receive, this could be the role for you.
This is a Fixed Term role until 31st March 2019.


About the Role:
  • You will support the Project Manager in the planning, implementation, development and evaluation of the Tri-Borough co-production project
  • You will have responsibility for working with volunteers known as our Young Champions (aged 16-25) with lived experience to plan, develop and co-deliver high quality workshops, events and projects with a focus on supporting young people’s mental health and wellbeing
  • Working closely with key internal and external stakeholders you will support the evaluation of the project and feed into reports that are provided to the Children’s Commissioning Team for the Tri-Borough in London


About You:
  • You will have experience of workshop facilitation and/or public speaking in a youth context 
  • You will have experience in an outreach based role working with a variety of stakeholders and an ability to communicate the project status, issues and successes to the project team, stakeholders and project manager

This is an opportunity to gain a wide range of experience within the homeless sector, ranging from support work in hostels, supported housing, community support and day services, and assisting in the practical running of services, including cleaning and catering.

Thames Reach is looking to expand our pool of sessional staff. Should you be successful, you may be asked to work across a variety of projects within Thames Reach, potentially to assist vulnerable people towards further independence, whether that be in obtaining employment, finding a home, or accessing the services they need, or in the practical day to day running of our services.

Sessional staff are an important part of our organisational teams, providing greater flexibility in how we can respond to our service users and ensure we can provide effective services at all times. As a sessional worker, the hours and frequency of your work will vary. This is in response to the needs of our service users, the development of our services and changes in staffing; for example:

• The development and setting up of new services
• Personalised support to a service user
• Staff cover at times of leave and higher demand

Such a position may be ideal for you if you wish to work flexibly or if you have other commitments and want to have your work fit around these.

Help is an exciting project providing pre-employment support to people who are living in temporary accommodation or at risk of homelessness. The successful candidate will support Westminster clients who are working to improve their financial and housing security through finding employment. The successful candidate will also have an understanding of issues related to insecure housing and be able to assisting clients with their housing options.

The role will involve supporting clients in a 121 and group setting, providing employment advice, coaching, support, and a job broker service.

The successful applicant will need to be able to:

• Provide a responsive and flexible service to meet the needs of the client group.
• Excellent communication and creative problem solving skills.
• Confidence, ability and enthusiasm to manage a complex case load.
• Ability to work in a team within a changing environment

Lambeth Accommodation Based Service provides support and accommodation to over 30 young men and women in Lambeth. The young people we work with present with a range of needs including Gang Affiliation, Substance Misuse, Mental Health and Domestic Abuse. 


The service works along side a number of Statutory Agencies such a Social Services, Local Authority, Police and Health Services. Support Workers in this service manage a caseload of approximately 8 -10 customers.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Building supportive, trusting relationships with customers
  • Working proactively with other members of the team to handle the service caseload and administrative responsibilities
  • Supporting key customers to set personalised goals in the form of a Support Plan
  • Conducting regular key work sessions that are innovative and engaging in order to achieve Support Plan goals
  • Ensuring on-going assessment and management of risks associated with customers within an attitude of ‘positive risk taking’
  • Providing support with daily living activities, including practical assistance where skills are not yet developed, to ensure that customers enjoy a high quality of accommodation
  • Proactive development of links with local statutory and voluntary organizations to provide a range of engagement opportunities for customers in the community
  • Involving customers in the design, development and delivery of the service
  • Empowering customers to ensure they receive the service and benefits they are entitled to

Night Workers - security and support for hostel residents North London region
 
We have some exciting opportunities for Night Workers to join our services in North London to provide overnight waking cover and support to our clients in hostels across London.
 
In these pivotal roles you will be responsible for appropriately dealing with any emergency situations that arise during your shift and writing handover notes for the daytime workers. You will also carry out administrative tasks, hourly building checks and monitor issues like noise in the locality and within the building. Other responsibilities include actively engaging with residents and providing them with support and assistance during the night.
 
You will have good communication skills with the ability to respond and interact effectively with residents and colleagues. You will also have experience in following administrative procedures and maintaining clear and accurate records. Being reliable, awake and alert at all times during your shift and acting with integrity is expected, as is using your initiative and staying calm in the event of an emergency.
 
Flexibility is required, as you’ll be working a shift rota that includes weekends and public holidays. On occasions you will also be expected to come in during the day to attend mandatory trainings, participate in supervision, team meetings and other activities as required.
 
These are really crucial roles and would be ideal for people who are looking to develop their career in the sector. You may have experience of working within a similar role or may have worked in other night accommodation / security type positions. Above all we are looking for people who have a genuine interest in helping vulnerable adults to make changes in their lives and who have an understanding of the types of issues that affect vulnerable homeless people.
